Overview
The 7.62 mm Trichy Assault Rifle (TAR) is an Indian gas-operated, select-fire assault rifle chambered in 7.62x39mm, developed and manufactured by Ordnance Factory Tiruchirappalli. Derived from the Bulgarian Arsenal AR-M1 (a Kalashnikov-pattern design), it uses a machined receiver, feeds from AK-compatible 30-round box magazines, and was developed under India's Atmanirbhar Bharat self-reliance program to arm paramilitary and state police forces. OFT has described it as functionally on par with the AK-47.
