The AK-104 is the compact 7.62x39mm variant of the AK-100 series, complementing the AK-101 (5.56mm), AK-103 (7.62mm full-size), and AK-105 (5.45mm compact). The shortened barrel reduces muzzle velocity by approximately 6% compared to the full-size AK-103, but provides superior handling in confined spaces. The rifle features a solid polymer stock unlike the skeleton stock of the earlier AKS-74U. Compatible with standard AKM/AK-47 30-round magazines and drums.
