Notes
The AK-200 series is distinct from the AK-12 despite sharing many modernization features. While the AK-12 was developed for the Russian military's Ratnik program, the AK-200 series was primarily developed for export markets and domestic law enforcement. The AK-203 variant in 7.62x39mm has received the largest export order, with India establishing a joint venture to produce over 600,000 units at a facility in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. The weight of 4.1 kg includes the empty magazine, making it slightly heavier than the AK-74M due to the added rail systems and telescoping stock mechanism. Iron sights are graduated to 800 meters.
Background
The AK-200 series represents Kalashnikov Concern's recognition that while the AK-12 pushes the envelope for the Russian military, many customers want a simpler, more affordable modernization of the proven AK-74M platform with accessory rails and an adjustable stock rather than a complete redesign.
