Overview
The Baikal IZh-18MN is a single-shot, break-action hunting rifle built by the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant on the long-running IZh-18 shotgun frame. Introduced in 1994 and chambered primarily in .308 Winchester (with other rifle cartridges such as 7.62x39mm and .30-06 Springfield offered), it uses a hammerless internal-hammer mechanism, a chrome-lined rifled barrel, a takedown design and a hardwood stock and fore-end. It is a simple, inexpensive rifle popular with Russian hunters.

Notes
Rifle derivative of the IZh-18/MP-18 single-shot shotgun family. The IZh-18MN designation reflects the rifled ('N') modernized ('M') version. Exact barrel and overall length vary by chambering and market; some values here are typical rather than model-exact.
Background
The IZh-18 platform is so cheap and durable that a standard shotgun cost just 28 rubles in 1964; the MN rifle version turned that same break-open workhorse into an affordable single-shot hunting rifle for the post-Soviet civilian market.
