Barrett Firearms Manufacturing · Sniper Rifle · In Production · 2011

Also known as: M107A1

Overview

The Barrett M107A1 is an improved variant of the iconic M82A1/M107 anti-materiel rifle, incorporating significant weight reductions through the use of aluminum and titanium components while maintaining full .50 BMG capability. Introduced in 2011, the M107A1 is approximately 2.3 kilograms lighter than its predecessor, featuring a titanium barrel key, aluminum lower receiver, and optimized suppressor compatibility with a quick-detach Barrett QDL suppressor system. The rifle retains the proven short-recoil operating system and 10-round magazine capacity that made the original M82 the standard by which all anti-materiel rifles are measured.

Notes

The M107A1 was designed from the outset with suppressor use in mind, featuring a cylindrical titanium barrel key and a quick-detach Barrett QDL suppressor that can be attached in seconds. The suppressor reduces sound signature by approximately 60 percent and virtually eliminates muzzle flash. The aluminum lower receiver reduces weight significantly compared to the steel construction of the original M107. Barrett offers the M107A1 in multiple Cerakote finishes including Tungsten Grey and Flat Dark Earth.

Background

The M107A1 was developed after US military operators in Afghanistan and Iraq requested a lighter, suppressor-compatible version of the M107 for extended dismounted patrols in mountainous terrain. The 5-pound weight reduction may seem modest, but for soldiers already carrying 100+ pounds of gear at altitude, every gram matters.
