Barrett M99

Also known as: Model 99, Barrett Model 99
Overview
The Barrett M99 is a single-shot, bolt-action anti-materiel rifle chambered in .50 BMG, produced by Barrett Firearms Manufacturing since 1999. Designed as a lightweight and cost-effective alternative to the semi-automatic M82/M107, the M99 features a bullpup-style layout with the action located behind the pistol grip, reducing overall length while maintaining a full-length 32-inch heavy barrel. The receiver is machined from 7000-series aluminum alloy extrusions, and the bolt is made from S-7 tool steel for maximum durability. The single-shot design eliminates the weight and complexity of a magazine feed system, making the M99 approximately 25% lighter than the M82A1 while delivering identical ballistic performance.

Notes
The M99 is also available in .416 Barrett, a proprietary cartridge designed to comply with California's .50 BMG ban while offering similar long-range performance. The rifle uses the same match-grade barrel profile as Barrett's semi-automatic models. A 29-inch fluted barrel variant reduces weight further to approximately 10.4 kg. The M99 is popular among civilian long-range shooting enthusiasts and is used in some EOD applications.
Background
The M99 was designed by Ronnie Barrett as a more affordable entry point into .50 BMG shooting, proving that single-shot simplicity could deliver the same extreme long-range accuracy as more complex semi-automatic designs at roughly half the weight and cost.
