Also known as: R8, Blaser R8 Standard, Blaser R8 Professional

Overview

The Blaser R8 is a premium straight-pull bolt-action rifle manufactured in Isny im Allgau, Germany. Its defining feature is the modular design system allowing rapid barrel changes between over 40 calibers using just two screws and a hex key, with interchangeable bolt heads accommodating different cartridge families. The straight-pull action operates via a radially expanding collet locking system that provides fast, smooth cycling without the lift-and-pull motion of conventional bolt actions. The R8 features a unique manual cocking/de-cocking system via a tang-mounted slide, allowing the rifle to be carried safely with a loaded chamber but uncocked, then silently cocked with the thumb before the shot. The Blaser Saddle Mount system provides return-to-zero repeatability when swapping optics between barrel/caliber configurations. Available in over 20 stock and finish configurations from synthetic field models to exhibition-grade walnut.

Notes

The R8 replaced the legendary Blaser R93 in 2008. Weight of 3300g is for a standard .308 Win configuration with walnut stock - weight varies significantly by barrel profile (17mm standard, 19mm semi-weight, 22mm match) and stock material. Available in 40+ calibers from .204 Ruger to .500 Jeffery. The optional ATZL match trigger offers 250g/650g pull weight modes. The aluminum alloy receiver saves weight; an optional steel receiver adds ~550g for magnum calibers. All barrels are cold hammer-forged. The R8 is one of the best-selling premium hunting rifles in Europe and Australia.

Background

The Blaser R8's straight-pull action can be cycled without removing the cheek from the stock - a critical advantage for European driven hunts where rapid follow-up shots on moving game are essential. Its modular barrel system has made it the rifle of choice for traveling hunters who want a single action that covers everything from chamois in the Alps to Cape buffalo in Africa, simply by swapping barrels and bolt heads in minutes.
