Blaser R8 Long Range
Blaser Jagdwaffen GmbH · Sniper Rifle · In Production · 2018
Also known as: R8 Long Range, R8 LR, Blaser R8 LRS
Overview
The Blaser R8 Long Range is a modular straight-pull bolt-action precision rifle built on the acclaimed R8 platform. Like all R8 variants, it employs Blaser's innovative straight-pull bolt mechanism with a radial locking head, allowing the bolt to cycle with a simple push-pull motion without rotation -- providing significantly faster cycling than conventional turn-bolt actions. The Long Range variant features a 27-inch heavy-profile barrel optimized for extended-range shooting, a dedicated long-range stock with adjustable cheek piece and length of pull, and full Picatinny rail for optics mounting. The R8's legendary quick-change barrel system allows caliber conversion in minutes using just two screws and a hex key.

Notes
The R8 platform succeeded the R93 in 2008 and introduced several improvements including a larger ejection port, a redesigned trigger mechanism, and an improved magazine system. The R8 Long Range variant was specifically developed for long-range precision shooting competition and tactical applications. The straight-pull action provides a significant speed advantage over conventional turn-bolt designs, as the shooter can cycle the action without removing their hand from the firing position. The R8's modular design supports over 30 caliber options across the platform.
Background
The Blaser R8 platform represents the evolution of the straight-pull bolt concept that first gained tactical credibility with the R93. While primarily marketed as a sporting rifle, the R8 Long Range's combination of sub-MOA accuracy and rapid cycling capability has attracted interest from precision rifle competitors who value the ability to engage multiple targets without breaking their shooting position.
