Notes
The BD-08 is essentially a licensed copy of the Chinese Type 81 assault rifle adapted for Bangladeshi production. It shares the Type 81's short-stroke gas piston design which differentiates it from the long-stroke system of the AK-47/AKM family despite using the same 7.62x39mm cartridge. The BD-08 Mk-II variant features an optical sight mounting system. The rifle was notably displayed during the Indian Republic Day parade. Weight of 3.25 kg empty is from Military Factory; some sources cite 4.5 kg which may include a loaded magazine.
Background
The BD-08 represents Bangladesh's effort to establish domestic small arms manufacturing capability. Based on the Chinese Type 81 platform which itself was developed as an improvement over the Type 56 (AK-47 clone), the BD-08 gave Bangladesh a degree of self-sufficiency in infantry weapons production rather than relying entirely on foreign imports.
