Also known as: Byrna SD Launcher, Byrna Self Defense

Overview

The Byrna SD is a CO2-powered less-lethal self-defense pistol (launcher) that fires .68 caliber round kinetic and chemical-irritant projectiles. Introduced in 2021 as the successor to the Byrna HD, it uses a patented pull-pierce system in which the 8-gram CO2 cartridge remains unpunctured until the first trigger pull, launching a projectile at roughly 300 feet per second. Marketed as a permit-free personal-protection device, it is not classified as a firearm in most U.S. jurisdictions.
