Also known as: Accles & Shelvoke CASH Small Animal Tool, CASH CPK200, CASH Poultry Stunner

Overview

The CASH Small Animal Tool is a cartridge-powered non-penetrating captive bolt stunning pistol made by Accles & Shelvoke for the humane stunning of poultry and other small animals such as chickens, turkeys, geese, piglets and lambs. Trigger fired and powered by a .22 caliber blank cartridge, it drives a retained (captive) concussion head forward against the animal's skull to deliver a concussive stun rather than firing a free projectile. It is supplied with two interchangeable concussion heads: a flat-faced head recommended for broilers and hens, and a convex head intended for turkeys and other small animals. The lightweight, well-balanced cylindrical body features an automatic bolt return, robust construction and low maintenance, and the tool is CE compliant to the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

Notes

A captive bolt stunner is not a conventional firearm: the concussion head is retained within the tool and no free projectile is discharged. Non-penetrating (concussion) type, distinct from the penetrating CASH Special. Manufacturer product code CPK200; product weight approximately 1.5 kg using a maximum 1-grain .22 cartridge charge. Supplied with cleaning tools and maintenance instructions.

Background

The CASH captive bolt principle, pioneered by Accles & Shelvoke from 1913, replaced cruder methods and became a founding standard of humane slaughter; the Small Animal Tool extends the concept to poultry and small livestock with a non-penetrating concussion head.
