Also known as: Super Orion Classic C40, Chapuis Super Orion C40
Overview
The Chapuis C40 (Super Orion Classic C40) is a premium French over-and-under field shotgun built on the round-bodied Super Orion action and fitted with engraved sideplates. Chambered for 12, 16, 20 and 28 gauge, it is mechanically identical to the Super Orion C35 but adds sideplates carrying fine English scroll engraving and game scenes. It features a double-trigger Blitz-type battery with a short trigger plate, automatic ejectors, a AAAA fancy-grade walnut straight English-grip stock with hand-cut checkering and a hand-rubbed oil finish, and barrels proofed for steel shot. It is a hand-finished sporting and game shotgun rather than a tactical or military arm.

Notes
Slug filename uses 'double-rifle' as a harvesting artifact; the C40 is in fact the Super Orion Classic C40 over-and-under shotgun, not a .470 Nitro Express double rifle. Chapuis's big-bore .470 NE side-by-side doubles are the separate Elan, Express and Brousse / Safari Express models. The C40 is offered with either fixed chokes or interchangeable chokes, both with superior steel-shot proof, and ships in a molded plastic case with coded locks.
Background
Chapuis Armes, a family gunmaker in the Loire valley town of Saint-Bonnet-le-Château, was acquired by Beretta Holding in 2019. The sideplated C40 sits at the top of the Super Orion over-and-under range, distinguished from the otherwise identical C35 by its engraved sideplates.
