Also known as: ROLS Elegance, Chapuis ROLS

Overview

The Chapuis ROLS Elegance is a French-made straight-pull bolt-action rifle featuring the patented Chapuis Locking System (CLS) that delivers rapid cycling for driven hunts and moving targets. The Elegance model features a two-piece walnut stock with a Bavarian-style cheek piece and an engraved action, blending traditional European aesthetics with modern mechanical design. Weighing just 3.0 kg, the ROLS Elegance is exceptionally light for a full-size rifle. The straight-pull action allows for faster follow-up shots than conventional turn-bolt designs while maintaining a robust multi-lug lockup. A key feature is barrel interchangeability across more than 10 calibers by removing a single screw, making the ROLS a versatile platform for hunters who pursue different game.

Notes

The ROLS was developed over six years by Chapuis Armes in Saint-Bonnet-le-Chateau, France. The Chapuis Locking System uses a rotating bolt head driven by a linear bolt handle movement, combining the speed of a straight-pull with the lockup strength of a turn-bolt. The barrel interchangeability system allows switching calibers in the field with minimal tools. The Elegance sits between the Classic and Deluxe models in Chapuis's lineup, featuring engraving on the action but not the full coverage of the Deluxe. Magazine capacity is 3+1 for standard calibers. The .300 Win Mag version features a 25-inch barrel and weighs approximately 6.8 lbs.

Background

Chapuis Armes traces its roots to the end of the 19th century when the first generation of the Chapuis family began working in the gunmaking trade in Saint-Bonnet-le-Chateau, in the Loire region that has been the historic cradle of French gunmaking for centuries. The ROLS represents six years of development to create a uniquely French answer to European straight-pull designs from Blaser and Merkel.
