CZ 550 Magnum 9.3x62

Ceska Zbrojovka · Rifle · Discontinued · 1999

Also known as: CZ 550 Magnum, CZ-USA 550 Magnum

Overview

The CZ 550 Magnum 9.3x62 is a Mauser-style controlled-feed bolt-action hunting rifle built on Ceska Zbrojovka's long magnum action and chambered for the 9.3x62mm Mauser cartridge. It uses a non-rotating claw extractor and controlled round feed for reliable dangerous-game cycling, a hinged-floorplate internal box magazine, a two-position safety, and a walnut stock. The 9.3x62mm chambering makes it a popular choice for European big-game hunting and African plains and thick-skinned game.

Notes

The CZ 550 line, including the Magnum action variants, was discontinued in 2020 and replaced by the CZ 557 and later CZ 600 rifles. Magazine capacity and exact barrel length vary by sub-model; the 9.3x62 typically feeds from a five-round internal box magazine.

Background

The CZ 550 Magnum action was designed to handle the largest belted and rimless big-bore cartridges, from the 9.3x62mm up to the .458 Lott and .500 Jeffery, earning a reputation among safari hunters as an affordable, robust controlled-feed dangerous-game rifle.
