DPMS GII SASS
DPMS Panther Arms · Sniper Rifle · Discontinued · 2014
Also known as: DPMS Panther GII SASS, DPMS RFLR-G2SASS, DPMS GII Semi-Automatic Sniper System
Overview
The DPMS GII SASS (Semi-Automatic Sniper System) is a semi-automatic precision rifle chambered in .308 Winchester/7.62 NATO, designed as an affordable entry into the semi-automatic precision rifle market. The GII platform represented DPMS's second-generation .308 AR design, featuring a receiver set approximately 30 percent lighter than the original LR-308 pattern while maintaining accuracy comparable to many bolt-action tactical rifles. The rifle features an 18-inch 416 stainless steel fluted bull barrel with a Teflon coating, a DPMS four-rail free-float tube, Magpul PRS stock, and a DPMS two-stage fire control group. Standard equipment included Magpul front and rear backup iron sights and a Harris bipod. The GII SASS was recognized as one of the best value propositions in the semi-automatic precision rifle category before DPMS was acquired by Remington Outdoor Company.

Notes
DPMS (Defense Procurement Manufacturing Services) was founded in 1986 and became one of the largest AR-15/AR-10 manufacturers in the United States. The GII platform used a proprietary receiver design that was lighter and more compact than standard DPMS LR-308 receivers while maintaining compatibility with most AR-10 components. The brand was affected by Remington's 2020 bankruptcy and subsequent breakup, with the DPMS brand effectively discontinued. MSRP was approximately $1,700-$1,900.
Background
The DPMS GII SASS was widely regarded as one of the best budget semi-automatic precision rifles available, delivering sub-MOA accuracy at a price point significantly below competitors like the Knights Armament SR-25 or ArmaLite SuperSASS. Its demise came not from any shortcoming of the rifle but from the financial collapse of its parent company Remington in 2020.
