Also known as: DSR-1, AMP DSR-1, AMP Technical Services DSR No. 1

Overview

The DSR-Precision DSR-1 is a German bullpup bolt-action sniper rifle designed specifically for tactical law enforcement and military applications requiring maximum accuracy in a compact package. The bullpup configuration places the action behind the trigger, allowing a full-length 650mm barrel within an overall length of just 990mm, making the DSR-1 significantly shorter than conventional sniper rifles of equivalent barrel length. The rifle features a free-floating barrel, fully adjustable ergonomics, and quick-change barrel and bolt system allowing caliber conversion between .308 Winchester, .300 Winchester Magnum, and .338 Lapua Magnum. Originally marketed by AMP Technical Services until 2004, the DSR-1 is now produced and sold directly by DSR-Precision GmbH in Dornhan, Germany. The rifle is advertised to achieve sub-0.2 MOA accuracy under optimal conditions, with tested performance of 0.34-0.63 MOA using factory ammunition.

Notes

The DSR-1's bullpup design is extremely rare among precision sniper rifles, where conventional layouts dominate due to concerns about trigger linkage affecting accuracy. DSR-Precision addressed this by using a sophisticated mechanical trigger transfer bar that maintains crisp trigger feel despite the distance between the trigger and sear. Magazine capacity is 5 rounds in .308 Winchester and 4 rounds in the larger caliber configurations. The rifle features hydraulic recoil damping in the buttstock and an integrated folding bipod. Until 2004, the rifle was marketed by AMP Technical Services GmbH as a non-exclusive dealer before DSR-Precision took over direct sales.

Background

The DSR-1 is one of only a handful of bullpup sniper rifles ever produced, and arguably the most successful. Its radical design challenged the convention that precision rifles must follow traditional stock configurations, proving that a bullpup could achieve sub-half-MOA accuracy. The rifle gained worldwide recognition through its appearances in numerous video games and films, making it one of the most recognizable sniper rifles in popular culture despite its relatively limited real-world production numbers.
