Extar EP45
Extar USA · Personal Defense Weapon · In Production · 2023
Overview
The Extar EP45 is a .45 ACP large-format pistol introduced in 2023, built on the same lightweight polymer, AR-pattern platform as the company's popular EP9. It pairs a 6.5-inch threaded barrel (5/8-24) with a blowback action and Extar's Recoil Damper to tame the recoil of the big .45 cartridge in a package weighing about 4.5 pounds and measuring under 24 inches overall. The EP45 feeds from Glock G21-pattern magazines (a 13-round magazine is included, with capacity up to 30 rounds) and introduces Extar's patented Dynamic Feed Control system (U.S. Patent 12,013,203 B2), which maintains constant physical contact with the cartridge throughout chambering to reliably feed any bullet profile. An M-LOK handguard, full-length top rail, reciprocating charging handle, and single-stage steel fire-control group complete the design. MSRP starts at $499.95.

Background
Following the commercial success of the EP9, Extar adapted the platform to .45 ACP, a cartridge notoriously difficult to run reliably in blowback PCCs because of its low pressure and wide variety of bullet profiles. Extar's answer was the patented Dynamic Feed Control, engineered to chamber everything from round-nose ball to wide hollow points without the feeding hiccups that plague many .45-caliber carbines.
