Overview
The FEG Model 48 (48.M) is a Hungarian semi-automatic pistol, a licensed copy of the Soviet Tokarev TT-33 manufactured by FEG (Femaru-, Fegyver- es Gepgyar) and adopted by the Hungarian People's Army in 1948. Chambered in the high-velocity 7.62x25mm Tokarev cartridge, it retains the TT-33's Browning short-recoil tilting-barrel action, single-action external hammer, and slide-out modular hammer/sear assembly, with no manual safety beyond a half-cock notch. It served as the standard Hungarian military sidearm through the 1950s before being supplemented by 9x18mm Makarov-caliber designs, and formed the basis for the export Tokagypt 58 rechambered for 9x19mm Parabellum.

Notes
Essentially identical to the Soviet TT-33; dimensional and ballistic figures follow the parent Tokarev pattern. The 48.M was later joined and supplanted in Hungarian service by the 9x18mm Makarov Walam 48M and PA-63 pistols. FEG's Tokarev tooling was reused to build the 9mm Tokagypt 58 for Egypt.
Background
Hungary's postwar standard sidearm was a faithful Tokarev copy, but FEG soon turned the same tooling outward - rechambering it in 9mm as the Tokagypt 58 for an Egyptian police contract, a gun that would later surface in the hands of 1970s European terror groups.
