Overview
The FN PS90 is a semi-automatic bullpup carbine chambered in 5.7x28mm, developed by FN Herstal as the civilian and law-enforcement counterpart to the select-fire P90 personal defense weapon. It retains the P90's compact bullpup layout, top-mounted translucent polymer magazine, and fully ambidextrous controls, but lengthens the barrel to a 16-inch hammer-forged, chrome-lined unit with a ported muzzle brake to meet civilian rifle regulations, and fires from a closed bolt by blowback operation in semi-automatic only.

Notes
The PS90 lengthens the P90's barrel from roughly 263mm to 407mm (16.04 in) to qualify as a non-NFA rifle in the United States. It accepts the standard 50-round P90 magazine in addition to 10- and 30-round magazines.
Background
The PS90 derives from the P90 personal defense weapon, which FN Herstal designed in the late 1980s around the new 5.7x28mm cartridge to defeat body armor at ranges where pistol-caliber submachine guns were ineffective. The civilian PS90 brought the distinctive bullpup design to the commercial market in 2005.
