FN SCAR-H TPR
FN Herstal · Sniper Rifle · In Production · 2012
Also known as: SCAR-H TPR, FN SCAR-H PR, SCAR-H Precision Rifle, FN SCAR-H Tactical Precision Rifle
Overview
The FN SCAR-H TPR (Tactical Precision Rifle) is a dedicated designated marksman variant of the FN SCAR-H platform, optimized for precision engagement at extended ranges. Introduced by FN Herstal in 2012, the TPR features a 20-inch cold hammer-forged barrel, a two-stage match-grade semi-automatic trigger, and a fixed adjustable stock with 10-position length of pull and 8-position cheek riser for optimal shooter interface. The rifle retains the SCAR-H's proven short-stroke gas piston operating system with its closed gas block design that prevents fouling and reduces reciprocating mass. A monolithic upper receiver and Picatinny rail assembly extends beyond the adjustable gas block, providing a stable optics platform, while a bottom rail accommodates bipod mounting. The TPR is designed for precision semi-automatic fire at ranges up to 800 meters, bridging the gap between standard battle rifles and dedicated bolt-action sniper systems.

Notes
The TPR designation indicates the tactical/law enforcement variant, while the closely related FN SCAR-H PR (Precision Rifle) is marketed specifically to military customers. The French Army adopted the SCAR-H PR in 2021 as part of a broader modernization program, selecting it over several competitors for the designated marksman role. The fixed stock (rather than the folding stock of the standard SCAR-H) provides superior rigidity for precision shooting, while the M16A2-style pistol grip offers a familiar ergonomic interface. The TPR can achieve sub-MOA accuracy with match-grade ammunition, making it one of the most accurate semi-automatic DMR platforms available.
Background
When the French Army went looking for a new designated marksman rifle in the 2020s, they chose the SCAR-H PR over a crowded field of competitors, validating FN's approach of converting the battle-proven SCAR-H into a precision platform. The TPR proves that with the right barrel, trigger, and stock configuration, a combat-proven gas piston rifle can deliver bolt-action-rivaling accuracy while retaining rapid follow-up shot capability.
