Overview
The Fort-17 is a Ukrainian semi-automatic pistol developed by Research and Production Association Fort and introduced in 2004. A polymer-framed evolution of the earlier steel-framed Fort-12, it is chambered primarily for the 9x18mm Makarov cartridge and operates on a straight blowback, double-action mechanism. The lighter polymer frame and a removable backstrap that can be swapped for different sizes make it noticeably lighter and more ergonomic than its predecessor. It serves widely with Ukrainian police and military units.

Background
Developed by the state-owned Fort factory in Vinnytsia, the Fort-17 became one of the standard sidearms of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs and saw expanded military issue following the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian War.
