Overview
The Galil ACE 31 is a compact, gas-operated, selective-fire assault rifle chambered in 7.62x39mm, developed by Israel Weapon Industries as a modernized evolution of the IMI Galil. The ACE 31 is the short-barreled carbine of the family, pairing a 215 mm barrel with a side-folding stock for a highly maneuverable package. It retains the proven long-stroke gas piston and rotating bolt mechanism of the AK-derived Galil while reducing weight through modern polymers and adding Picatinny rails and ambidextrous controls.

Notes
The ACE 31 uses standard AK-pattern 30-round magazines in 7.62x39mm. It shares its mechanism with the longer-barreled ACE 32; the two differ mainly in barrel length and overall length.
Background
When the state-run IMI was privatized in 2005, the newly formed Israel Weapon Industries set out to resurrect and modernize the venerable Galil, itself derived from the Finnish Valmet Rk 62 and the Soviet AK-47. The result was the Galil ACE family, blending Kalashnikov reliability with modern ergonomics and modularity.
