Glock G17 Gen6

Glock Ges.m.b.H. · Pistol · In Production · 2026

Also known as: Glock 17 Gen 6, G17 Gen6

Overview

The Glock G17 Gen6 is the sixth and latest generation of the iconic Glock 17 full-size service pistol, announced at SHOT Show 2026 and shipping to dealers from January 20, 2026. The Gen6 represents the most significant ergonomic overhaul in Glock's history, featuring a new flat-face trigger with a 5.5-pound pull weight, a redesigned frame based on scanning hundreds of user hand profiles for an optimized palmswell, and a factory optics-ready slide with three included polymer mounting plates supporting RMR, Shield/DeltaPoint/Holosun K, and C-More pattern footprints. The optic bed sits deeper into the slide for a lower height-over-bore axis. The Gen6 reverts to a simpler Gen3-style single recoil spring assembly, replacing the dual-spring RSA used in Gen4 and Gen5. Despite the extensive upgrades, the Gen6 retains compatibility with most existing Glock 17 holsters and maintains the same proven Safe Action system, nDLC finish, and legendary reliability that made the platform the world's most widely adopted service pistol.

Notes

Gen6 launched at SHOT Show 2026 in G17, G19, and G45 configurations. MSRP is $745, comparable to the Gen5 MOS models despite including optics capability as standard. All Gen6 models ship optics-ready with three polymer adapter plates. The single recoil spring assembly is a deliberate design regression from the Gen4/Gen5 dual-spring setup, which Glock determined was no longer needed. The new palmswell design was developed using hand-scan data from hundreds of Glock users. Weight without magazine is 600g (21.16 oz), lighter than the Gen5 at 625g.

Background

When Glock finally unveiled the Gen6 at SHOT Show 2026, the reaction was 'this is the Glock we've been waiting for.' The flat-face trigger, factory optics plates, and ergonomic frame were long-requested features that competitors had offered for years. By building them into the standard package at the same price point as the Gen5 MOS, Glock acknowledged the market had moved while demonstrating that sometimes the best strategy is to let others innovate first, then execute better.
