The SF (Short Frame) design was Glock's first answer to complaints about the large grip circumference of the 10mm and .45 ACP large-frame models, predating the Gen4 modular backstrap system. The grip reduction is achieved by shortening the distance from the backstrap to the trigger, making the frame more comfortable without changing the overall width. Weight without magazine is 775g (27.34 oz). The SF variant is built on Gen3 architecture and lacks the modular backstrap, dual recoil spring, and RTF texture found on Gen4 models.
Background
The Glock 20 SF was born from a simple problem: the standard G20's grip was too big for many shooters. While the 10mm Auto cartridge demanded a larger frame than Glock's 9mm and .40 S&W models, the original G20's grip circumference was a dealbreaker for anyone without large hands. The SF variant trimmed the backstrap to bring the trigger within easier reach, foreshadowing the modular backstrap system that would arrive with Gen4. For years, the G20 SF was the go-to recommendation for anyone who wanted 10mm power but couldn't comfortably wrap their hand around a standard G20.
