Overview
The Glock G29 SF is the Short Frame variant of Glock's subcompact 10mm Auto pistol, featuring a reduced grip circumference designed to make the wide double-stack 10mm grip more manageable for shooters with smaller hands. Introduced in 2007 as part of Glock's SF initiative applied to their large-bore pistols, the G29 SF shaves approximately 2.5mm from the backstrap area of the grip without altering the slide, barrel, or magazine dimensions. The G29 SF retains the same 3.78-inch (96mm) barrel, 6.97-inch (177mm) overall length, and 10+1 capacity as the standard G29. Weighing 26.81 ounces (760g) with an empty magazine, it delivers the full 10mm Auto performance -- 180-grain bullets at approximately 1,200 fps for 780 joules of muzzle energy. The SF modification addresses the most common complaint about the subcompact 10mm: that the thick double-stack grip made the pistol difficult to control under the cartridge's considerable recoil. The Gen3-era SF model features the standard Tenifer finish and hexagonal rifling without the later Gen4/Gen5 improvements.

Notes
The SF (Short Frame) designation was Glock's pre-Gen4 solution to the grip size issue that would later be addressed by modular backstraps. Weight without magazine is 690g (24.34 oz). The SF frame reduces the back-to-front grip dimension by approximately 2.5mm compared to the standard Gen3 frame. All other specifications remain identical to the standard G29. The SF uses Gen3-era features: no interchangeable backstraps, single recoil spring, non-reversible magazine catch, and finger grooves. Compatible with 15-round Glock 20 magazines with grip extension. The SF model remains in production alongside the Gen5, serving shooters who prefer the simpler Gen3 platform or want the reduced grip without modular backstraps.
Background
The Short Frame concept was born from a practical problem: Glock's large-bore double-stack grip was simply too fat for many shooters to wrap their hands around comfortably, especially under the 10mm's aggressive recoil. Rather than redesign the entire pistol, Glock's elegant solution was to reduce the backstrap dimension while maintaining full parts compatibility. The G29 SF became the preferred version for backcountry carry among shooters who found the standard grip unwieldy, particularly when wearing gloves in cold-weather bear country.
