The G39 was introduced alongside the G38 in 2005, completing the .45 GAP model lineup that mirrors Glock's 9mm trio (G17/G19/G26). The subcompact .45 GAP generates significant felt recoil due to the combination of a lightweight polymer frame and the powerful cartridge. Standard capacity is 6 rounds, with 8-round (G38) and 10-round (G37) magazines also compatible. Like all .45 GAP models, the G39 has seen limited commercial adoption due to the niche status of the cartridge.
Background
The G39 represents the extreme end of Glock's .45 GAP experiment -- a subcompact pistol firing a proprietary cartridge that never caught on commercially. While the .45 GAP was adopted by several law enforcement agencies, the subcompact G39 remained the least popular of the three models, as most shooters who wanted a subcompact .45 simply chose a .45 ACP platform instead.
