Notes
The G44 was announced in late 2019 and began shipping in January 2020. Its hybrid slide uses a polymer outer shell with precision-machined steel rails and internal reinforcements, reducing weight while maintaining the same dimensions as the G19 slide. The pistol uses a simple blowback action rather than the locked-breech system of centerfire Glocks. The Glock Marksman Barrel (GMB) provides enhanced accuracy with traditional rifling rather than the polygonal rifling found in centerfire models. The G44 comes with adjustable rear sights, a first for a standard Glock model. Early production models had some reliability issues with certain ammunition brands, which Glock addressed through updates to the extractor and other internal components.
Background
The G44 was Glock's answer to the age-old question of affordable training. Rather than offering a .22 LR conversion kit like many competitors, Glock engineered an entirely new pistol from scratch that maintains perfect dimensional compatibility with the G19. The innovative hybrid slide was a bold departure from Glock's all-steel slide tradition, proving that even the most conservative handgun manufacturer could innovate when the application demanded it.
