Notes
The G47 was initially exclusive to U.S. Customs and Border Protection and authorized law enforcement agencies. CBP selected the G47 to replace their existing sidearms, with the key advantage being slide interchangeability with G19 and G45 slides on the same frame. The shortened dust cover on the G47 frame (compared to the G17 frame) enables this modularity. The MOS (Modular Optic System) cut is standard on all G47s, accommodating popular red dot sights. Standard magazine capacity is 17 rounds, with 19, 24, 31, and 33-round options compatible. The G47 became available to the general public in early 2023.
Background
The G47 was the result of CBP's demand for a modular duty pistol platform. Rather than issuing multiple pistol models, CBP wanted a single frame that could accept different slide lengths depending on the mission profile. Glock's answer was the G47 -- essentially a G17-length slide on a G45 frame with a shortened dust cover. This seemingly minor engineering change created unprecedented modularity within the Glock ecosystem. When it finally reached the commercial market in 2023, many shooters declared it the 'ultimate Glock' -- the full-size model that should have been the Gen5 G17 all along.
