Overview

The Grand Power Stribog SP9A1 is the semi-automatic, direct-blowback member of the Slovak Stribog family of 9x19mm submachine guns and pistol-caliber carbines. Introduced in 2016 by Grand Power, it uses a 7075 aluminum receiver, an AR-15-style fire selector and grip, a full-length top Picatinny rail, an M-LOK polymer handguard and a side-folding stock, feeding from proprietary 10/20/30-round detachable box magazines. The SP9A1 was submitted for the US Army Sub Compact Weapon program and is widely sold on the civilian market as a large-format pistol and carbine.

Notes

The 'A1' suffix denotes the simple direct-blowback operating system; the later SP9A3 adds a roller-delayed blowback action for reduced recoil, while the SR9A1/SR9A3 are the select-fire submachine gun versions for military and law-enforcement use.

Background

The Stribog is named after the Slavic god of wind, and its blocky, rail-covered profile earned it a following in the US pistol-brace market before it was even offered with a stock; Grand Power entered it against contenders like the SIG MPX and B&T APC9 in the US Army's Sub Compact Weapon trials.
