The HK416 gained international recognition when it was reportedly used by U.S. Navy SEALs during Operation Neptune Spear in 2011. The rifle has been adopted by over 20 countries and is considered one of the most reliable and accurate modern assault rifles. The cold hammer-forged barrel has a rated service life of 20,000 rounds.
Background
The HK416 gained worldwide fame when a DEVGRU operator reportedly used one to kill Osama bin Laden during Operation Neptune Spear on May 2, 2011. The rifle was developed in close collaboration with U.S. Army Delta Force operators who wanted a more reliable alternative to the M4 carbine.
