Also known as: H&H Royal Deluxe, Royal Deluxe Sidelock, Royal Deluxe Side by Side

Overview

The Holland & Holland Royal Deluxe is the top-tier grade of the company's bespoke 'Royal' side-by-side double-barrelled shotgun, built around H&H's hand-detachable sidelock ejector action with the patented assisted self-opening mechanism. Most commonly chambered in 12 gauge with 2.75-inch (70mm) chambers and fitted with chopper-lump barrels, the Royal Deluxe distinguishes itself from the standard Royal through exhibition-grade Circassian walnut, deeper and more elaborate hand engraving executed to the customer's specification, and the finest London 'Best' gun finish. Each gun is made bespoke to the individual shooter's measurements by the firm's London craftsmen.

Notes

The Royal Deluxe is a finishing/embellishment grade rather than a mechanically distinct gun: it shares the Royal's sidelock ejector self-opening action but adds the highest grade of walnut, engraving and overall finish. Barrel lengths are made to order, typically between 25 and 32 inches; the 686mm (27-inch) figure reflects a representative 12-bore example.

Background

The Royal is widely regarded as the most copied sidelock side-by-side design in the world; the Deluxe grade represents the pinnacle of Holland & Holland's London 'Best' gun craftsmanship, with engraving and walnut selected to the buyer's commission.
