Overview

The INA 953 is a Brazilian submachine gun, a licensed and modified copy of the Danish Madsen M/50 produced by Industria Nacional de Armas in Sao Paulo. Chambered in .45 ACP, it fires from an open bolt using a simple blowback action and is built around a clamshell sheet-steel receiver that hinges open for cleaning. It served Brazilian police and military forces from the 1950s, feeding from a 30-round box magazine and folding its tubular steel wire stock to the right for compactness.

Notes

Based on the Madsen M/50; a safety lever sits in front of the magazine housing. Many surviving guns were later rebarrelled to 9x19mm Parabellum during the 1980s.

Background

The INA lineage began with the .45 ACP MB-50, a Brazilian rendition of the Madsen M/50; the improved Model 953 followed with an extended magazine housing and became a staple of Brazilian police armories for decades.
