Overview
The IOF .22 Sporting Rifle is a bolt-action .22 Long Rifle target and sporting rifle manufactured by the Indian Ordnance Factories at the Rifle Factory Ishapore for civilian shooters. It feeds from a 10-round detachable box magazine and uses a cold-swaged, six-groove, chrome-flashed barrel with a one-piece wooden stock. Adjustable rear and front sights, a dovetail mount for a peep sight, and an adjustable trigger (down to about 1 kg) make it suited to U.I.T. target shooting, small-game hunting, and marksmanship training out to roughly 200 metres.

Chamber is cut to the international standard .22 LR dimensions (5.70 mm x 16.50 mm). The barrel has six right-hand grooves with a 1-in-200 mm twist. A safety lever sits at the rear of the receiver body, and the extraction mechanism is described as double-action.
Background
Sold to Indian civilians through the Indian Ordnance Factories' sporting-arms line, the .22 Sporting Rifle served for decades as one of the few domestically produced target rifles available to Indian marksmen under the country's tightly restricted private firearms regime.
