Overview

The IWI Arad 7 DMR is a semi-automatic designated marksman rifle manufactured by Israel Weapon Industries, introduced in 2023 as part of the modular Arad rifle family. Chambered primarily in 7.62x51mm NATO with a 6.5mm Creedmoor option, the DMR variant features a quick-change cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel system with available lengths of 326mm, 352mm, and 406mm, all utilizing a faster 1:254mm twist rate optimized for heavier, high-BC projectiles. The rifle operates via a short-stroke gas piston system with a rotating bolt, and the DMR model is fitted with a precision two-stage trigger for improved shot-to-shot consistency. The side-folding adjustable stock does not impair the mechanical function of the weapon when folded. Weighing approximately 4.35 kg empty, the Arad 7 DMR is remarkably lightweight for a 7.62 NATO precision platform, allowing operators to rapidly and accurately engage multiple threats from 500 to 1000 meters. The modular design accepts NATO/MIL-STD 7.62x51mm steel, aluminum, or polymer magazines.

Notes

The Arad 7 DMR represents IWI's latest entry into the modular battle rifle/DMR market, competing with platforms like the HK G28 and FN SCAR-H PR. The quick-change barrel system allows the operator to switch between barrel lengths in the field without tools. The rifle shares a common platform with the 5.56mm Arad and the select-fire Arad 7 assault rifle variant. IWI hopes the Arad 7 will benefit from Israel's increased focus on domestic arms production following the 2023 security situation.

Background

The Arad represents IWI's bold bet on a modular future where a single rifle platform can be rapidly converted between calibers and roles in the field. Named after the ancient Israelite city of Arad in the Negev desert, the rifle continues Israel's tradition of developing compact, reliable weapons suited to the demands of asymmetric warfare and urban combat operations.
