Overview

The Jarvis PAS Type C is a cartridge-powered penetrating captive bolt stunning pistol built by Jarvis Products Corporation for the humane pre-slaughter stunning of livestock. Chambered for the .25R (6.3mm) blank charge, its cylindrical Type C body drives a retained steel bolt of roughly 11.43 mm (0.45 in) diameter forward on contact with the animal's skull, delivering a concussive penetrating blow that renders cattle, bulls, hogs, sows and sheep instantly insensible. The bolt is captive and automatically retracts after each shot, so no free projectile is discharged. Interchangeable cartridge power loads of roughly 1.25 to 4.50 grains let the operator match the charge to the size of the animal, while a breech-locking safe position and a clear ready-to-fire alignment indicator make the single-hand tool safe and precise on the line.

Notes

A captive bolt stunner is not a conventional firearm: the bolt is retained within the tool and no free projectile leaves the device, so ballistic range figures do not apply. The Type C is the cylindrical (in-line) body style in the Jarvis PAS range and is offered in both .22R (5.6mm) and .25R (6.3mm) calibers; the .25R heavy-duty version is rated for large cattle and bulls. Penetrating rod diameter is approx 0.45 in (11.43 mm) with a bolt extension of about 4.75 in (120 mm) on the long-bolt version. Cartridge power loads span roughly 1.25-4.50 grains. Verified weight and overall length figures were not published in the sources consulted.
