Overview

The Kel-Tec SU-22 is a lightweight, AR-15-style semi-automatic rimfire carbine chambered in .22 LR. Introduced in 2007, it uses a simple blowback action housed in a polymer receiver and pairs a folding stock with a 16.1-inch threaded barrel, AR-pattern controls, adjustable iron sights, and an integrated Picatinny optics rail. Marketed as an affordable tactical trainer and plinker, it accepts a high-capacity 26-round magazine and weighs only about four pounds.

Notes

The SU-22CA is the standard current-production California-compliant variant with a fixed (non-folding) stock arrangement and 26-round magazine. The barrel is threaded 1/2x28 to accept common muzzle devices. The stock includes a storage compartment. Twist rate is 1:16 inches.

Background

The SU-22 was Kel-Tec's rimfire companion to its centerfire SU-16 rifle, giving owners an AR-style platform that could be fed with inexpensive .22 LR for low-cost training and practice.
