LaRue Tactical OBR
LaRue Tactical · Sniper Rifle · In Production · 2009
Also known as: PredatOBR, LaRue OBR, Optimized Battle Rifle, LaRue PredatOBR 7.62
Overview
The LaRue Tactical OBR (Optimized Battle Rifle) is a semi-automatic precision rifle designed to bridge the gap between a battle rifle and a dedicated sniper platform. Available in both 7.62x51mm NATO and 5.56x45mm NATO, the OBR features a match-grade stainless steel barrel, LaRue's own Meticulously Built Trigger (MBT), and the company's proprietary gas system with a PST (Port Selector Technology) adjustable gas block that allows the shooter to tune the system for suppressed or unsuppressed operation. The direct impingement action, free-floated barrel, and precision-machined receivers combine to deliver consistent sub-MOA accuracy. Available in 16.1-inch, 18-inch, and 20-inch barrel configurations, the OBR is now marketed as the PredatOBR and remains one of the most respected semi-automatic precision rifle platforms on the market.

Notes
LaRue Tactical's OBR gained a significant following within US special operations communities, with multiple SOF units reportedly purchasing the rifle through unit-level procurement channels. The MBT (Meticulously Built Trigger) included with the OBR became so popular that LaRue began selling it separately, and it is now widely considered one of the best value two-stage AR triggers available. The PST gas block provides two settings: normal and suppressed, preventing over-gassing when a suppressor is attached. Mark LaRue is known for his perfectionist approach to manufacturing, and each OBR undergoes extensive quality control testing before shipment. Barrel life is estimated at approximately 10,000 rounds.
Background
The LaRue OBR earned its reputation the hard way -- through word-of-mouth among special operations soldiers who purchased the rifles with unit funds or personal money. Mark LaRue's obsessive attention to quality and his direct-to-consumer business model created a cult following, with the OBR often referred to as 'the best AR-10 you can buy' in military and competition circles.
