Overview

The LMT CSW (Confined Space Weapon) is an integrally suppressed select-fire carbine developed by Lewis Machine & Tool as the company's entry into the U.S. SOCOM Suppressed Upper Receiver Group (SURG) program. Built around an ambidextrous MARS-L PDW lower and a direct-impingement monolithic upper, it pairs a quick-change barrel with a full-length integral suppressor employing LMT's Virtual Baffle System, so the muzzle signature stays buried under a single full-length handguard. Originally shown in .300 Blackout, it was adapted to 5.56x45mm NATO for the SURG requirement and is intended for vehicle entry, naval boarding, and close-quarters work in confined spaces.

Notes

LMT competed for the SOCOM SURG contract, which was ultimately awarded to SIG Sauer in 2019. The CSW was publicly shown at Poland's MSPO 2018 exposition. The .300 Blackout configuration uses a 10.5-inch integrally suppressed barrel; the 5.56 SURG configuration uses a longer integrally suppressed barrel assembly. A semi-automatic civilian version has also been offered.

Background

Developed alongside suppressor technology licensed from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory through the U.S. Army's ARDEC, the CSW was conceived for operators who must fight inside vehicles, ships, and rooms where a conventional muzzle blast is intolerable.
