Also known as: IC-DI, Individual Carbine Direct Impingement, LWRCI IC-DI

Overview

The LWRC IC-DI (Individual Carbine - Direct Impingement) is a semi-automatic, direct impingement carbine chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO. It brings the ergonomics and build quality of LWRC International's piston-operated Individual Carbine line to shooters who prefer a traditional gas-impingement AR-15 operating system at a lower price point. The rifle is built around a one-piece monolithic upper receiver that integrates the handguard rail for a rigid, repeatable optic-to-barrel relationship, and it feeds from standard AR-15 detachable box magazines. The 16.1-inch cold hammer-forged barrel is treated with LWRC's NiCorr surface process for corrosion and wear resistance, with a 1:7 twist optimized for heavier match and combat projectiles. Fully ambidextrous controls (safety selector, bolt catch/release, and magazine release) allow seamless operation from either shoulder, and an enhanced single-stage fire control group provides a crisp, consistent trigger pull. A nickel-boron coated bolt carrier group improves lubricity and ease of cleaning, while the modular rail accepts a wide range of accessories and optics.

Notes

The IC-DI is LWRC International's direct impingement entry in the Individual Carbine family, distinct from the short-stroke gas piston IC-A5 and IC-A2 models. It shares the IC platform's monolithic upper, ambidextrous controls and NiCorr cold hammer-forged barrel, but uses a conventional AR-15 direct impingement gas system rather than a piston, reducing both cost and weight. Unloaded weight is roughly 6.8 pounds. The rifle is offered in carbine, pistol and short-barreled rifle configurations.

Background

When LWRC International built its reputation on piston-driven Individual Carbines aimed at unseating the M4, many shooters wanted the company's renowned fit, finish and ambidextrous ergonomics without paying the piston premium. The IC-DI answered that demand: the same monolithic upper and NiCorr cold hammer-forged barrel wrapped around a familiar direct impingement action, making LWRC's hard-use pedigree accessible to a wider audience.
