Overview
The Marlin Model 880 is a bolt-action rimfire rifle chambered in .22 Long Rifle, introduced in 1989 as part of Marlin's clip-fed 880/881/882/883 bolt-action series. It fed from a 7-round detachable box magazine and used Marlin's proprietary MicroGroove barrel with a 22-inch tube, adjustable folding rear sight, hooded ramp front sight, and a grooved receiver for scope mounting. Marketed as an accurate small-game and plinking rifle, it spawned stainless (880SS) and heavy-barrel target (880SQ) variants before production ended in 2004.

Notes
Part of Marlin's bolt-action rimfire family: the Model 880 (.22 LR clip-fed), Model 881 (.22 LR tubular), Model 882 (.22 WMR clip-fed) and Model 883 (.22 WMR tubular). The 880SS introduced stainless internal parts in 1994; the 880SQ was a heavy-barrel target model.
Background
The 880SQ ('Squirrel gun') heavy-barrel variant earned a cult following among rimfire target shooters for delivering match-grade accuracy at a budget price.
