Overview
The Marlin Model 881 is a bolt-action rimfire rifle chambered in .22 Long Rifle, part of Marlin's 880-series of premium .22 bolt guns introduced in 1988. Distinguished from the clip-fed Model 880 by its tubular magazine that loads through the forend, the 881 holds up to 17 rounds of .22 LR (or 19 Longs and 25 Shorts). It features Marlin's Micro-Groove barrel, a checkered black walnut Monte Carlo stock, an adjustable folding rear sight and a hooded ramp front sight, and was well regarded for its accuracy in small-game hunting and plinking. It was discontinued in 2004.

Background
Marlin's Micro-Groove rifling, which cuts many shallow grooves rather than a few deep ones, was a company hallmark introduced in the 1950s and applied across its rimfire line, including the 880-series bolt guns, giving them a reputation for excellent accuracy with .22 LR ammunition.
