Overview

The PM md. 96 (RATMIL Model 96) is a Romanian 9x19mm submachine gun produced by RomArm at the Cugir works. A simple open-bolt blowback weapon firing in single shots or full automatic, it uses a stamped-steel receiver, a side-folding metal stock and an AK-pattern safety and fire-selector lever, with a short slotted barrel jacket and muzzle compensator.

Background

Romania's answer to a cheap modern submachine gun wrapped its simple blowback action in Kalashnikov-style controls so AK-trained soldiers and guards could pick it up with no retraining.
