Also known as: 590S, Mossberg 590S Tactical

Overview

The Mossberg 590S is a pump-action 12-gauge shotgun built on the proven 590 platform with a patented dual-feed system that cycles 1.75-inch mini shells, standard 2.75-inch shells, and 3-inch magnum shells interchangeably without an adapter. This versatility allows shooters to load any combination of shell lengths simultaneously, providing up to 13+1 capacity with mini shells or 8+1 with standard loads from the 20-inch barrel model. The 590S retains all hallmarks of the 590 family including dual extractors, twin action bars, steel-to-steel lockup, anti-jam elevator, and Mossberg's signature top-tang ambidextrous safety. The M-LOK compatible forend accommodates accessories, and ghost ring sights provide rapid target acquisition. Available in standard, optic-ready, compact, and Shockwave configurations.

Notes

The 590S's patented shell-cycling system (U.S. Patents 11,598,596 and 12,203,718) is the key differentiator from the standard 590. With 1.75-inch mini shells, the 20-inch barrel model achieves 13+1 capacity - nearly double the capacity of standard 2.75-inch loads. The 18.5-inch barrel model holds 9+1 with standard shells or 13+1 with mini shells. Available in multiple configurations including Shockwave variants with bird's-head Raptor grip. MSRP ranges from $700-$1,064 depending on configuration.

Background

The 590S solved a problem that had vexed pump shotgun owners for years: the inability to reliably cycle short shells without an aftermarket adapter. Mossberg's patented dual-feed system allows the 590S to switch between 1.75-inch mini shells, standard 2.75-inch, and 3-inch magnum loads on the fly, making it the most versatile pump shotgun in the company's 100+ year history.
