Overview
The MP-35M (Bergmann MP 35) is a German blowback, open-bolt submachine gun chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum. Designed by Emil Bergmann and manufactured from 1935, it is distinctive for its rear-mounted bolt handle resembling a bolt-action rifle and its magazine that feeds from the right side of the receiver. A progressive trigger selects fire mode: a partial pull fires single shots while a full pull produces automatic fire. Most examples were issued to the Waffen-SS and German police during World War II.

Notes
Developed from the earlier BMP 32 and Bergmann MP 34; the simplified MP 35/I was the main German production model. Around 40,000 were built by Bergmann, Carl Walther and Junker & Ruh between 1935 and 1944.
Background
Unlike almost every other submachine gun of its era, the Bergmann MP 35 loaded its magazine from the right side and was cocked with a rear bolt handle like a bolt-action rifle, giving it the handling feel of a carbine rather than a machine pistol.
