Also known as: AMR-2
Overview
The Norinco AMR-2 is a Chinese bolt-action anti-materiel rifle chambered in 12.7x108mm, designed by China North Industries Corporation (Norinco) as a more compact and transportable alternative to the semi-automatic M99. The rifle features a conventional rotary bolt action with a free-floating barrel equipped with a massive muzzle brake, feeding from a 5-round detachable box magazine. The side-folding buttstock with adjustable cheekpiece, folding bipod, and detachable rear monopod make the AMR-2 more practical for field deployment than its predecessor. At 11 kg complete with scope and bipod, the AMR-2 achieves significant weight savings over the M99 while maintaining comparable range and accuracy through its longer 850mm barrel.

Notes
The AMR-2 represents Norinco's second-generation approach to anti-materiel rifles, trading the M99's semi-automatic capability for reduced weight, improved portability, and potentially better accuracy through its bolt-action mechanism and free-floating barrel design. The folding stock reduces the transport profile significantly, making the weapon more practical for airborne and special operations forces. The AMR-2 has been marketed for export alongside the M99, offering customers a choice between semi-automatic fire capability and lighter weight/portability. The bolt action also simplifies the design and reduces the parts count compared to the gas-operated M99.
Background
The AMR-2 was developed as Norinco recognized that many tactical scenarios favoring anti-materiel rifles prioritize portability and covert deployment over rapid fire. The bolt-action design allows a sniper team to carry the disassembled weapon to a concealed position more easily than the heavier semi-automatic M99, assemble it, engage the target, and withdraw before the enemy can react.
