Norinco CS/LR4
Norinco · Sniper Rifle · In Production · 2012
Also known as: NSG-1, QBU-202, CS/LR4A
Overview
The Norinco CS/LR4 is a bolt-action sniper rifle chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, designed and manufactured by China North Industries Corporation (Norinco) primarily for the international export market. Also known by its PLA designation QBU-202 and the earlier export designation NSG-1, the CS/LR4 is largely based on the 5.8x42mm CS/LR3 platform but with an enlarged, accurized barrel chambered for the widely used 7.62 NATO cartridge. The rifle features a manually operated rotary bolt with three radial locking lugs at the front, a free-floating barrel for improved accuracy, and a polymer thumbhole stock with adjustable buttpad, cheekrest, and an integral folding monopod. The double-stage trigger has adjustable pull weight between 8N and 15N for precision shooting. With 7.62x51mm NATO ball sniper cartridge, the CS/LR4 guarantees 1 MOA accuracy within 300 meters and has an effective range of 600 meters against single personnel targets. Feed is from detachable single-stack box magazines with 5-round capacity.

Notes
The CS/LR4 was designed in 2008 and introduced in 2012 as part of Norinco's expanding portfolio of export-oriented precision weapons. The domestic PLA designation QBU-202 and the NSG-1 export name are used interchangeably with CS/LR4 in different markets. The Philippines Army adopted the improved CS/LR4A variant, while Venezuela's Marine Corps uses the standard CS/LR4. The rifle competes in the budget-friendly precision rifle segment against Western designs like the Remington 700 and Tikka T3x. The CS/LR35 succeeded the CS/LR4 as Norinco's next-generation precision rifle platform, offering both 7.62 NATO and 8.6x70mm (.338 Lapua Magnum) chamberings.
Background
The CS/LR4 marked China's serious entry into the competitive international precision rifle export market, designed specifically to appeal to NATO-aligned countries using the 7.62x51mm standard. Its Philippine and Venezuelan export contracts demonstrated Norinco's growing reach in the global small arms trade.
