Norinco HP9-1
China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO) · Shotgun · In Production · 2008
Also known as: Hawk 982, Interstate Hawk 982, Norinco HP9
Overview
The Norinco HP9-1 is a Chinese pump-action shotgun chambered in 12 gauge, manufactured by NORINCO. A close copy of the American Remington 870, it shares the Remington's dual-action-bar pump mechanism and most parts interchange freely with it. The standard model has a compact 360 mm (14 in) barrel, a four-round tubular magazine, a parkerized rust-resistant finish, and a pistol-grip polymer stock. It is widely exported and, in the United States, is imported and sold under the names Hawk 982 and Interstate Hawk 982.

Notes
A copy of the patent-expired Remington 870 design. Offered with 12.5-inch, 14-inch and 18-inch barrels. Because many other Norinco products are non-importable to the US, the HP9-1 enters the American market rebranded as the Hawk 982 / Interstate Hawk 982.
Background
The HP9-1 is one of many Norinco firearms that clone proven Western designs once their patents lapse; the Remington 870 it copies is among the best-selling shotguns ever made, which let Norinco produce a low-cost, parts-compatible equivalent for export markets.
