Overview
The Parker A-1 Special is a side-by-side, break-action double-barreled shotgun and the highest production grade in Parker Brothers' hammerless line, ranked just below the near-mythical Invincible. Introduced around 1907 at the then-princely price of $500, each A-1 Special was hand-built with extensive engraving, gold inlays, a gold shield and grip cap, gold-plated triggers, and stocks of the finest Circassian walnut checkered at roughly 32 lines per inch. It featured automatic ejectors as standard and barrels of premium Whitworth (later Peerless) steel, representing the pinnacle of American 'Artistry in Arms'.

Denoted by an '8' numeral stamped on the water table of the frame. Roughly 79 original A-1 Specials were built; they are among the most sought-after and valuable American shotguns. Chambered in various gauges including 12, 20, and 28 gauge. A limited Parker Reproduction A-1 Special was later produced.
Background
Parker Brothers earned the nickname 'Old Reliable', and the A-1 Special stood as its crown jewel of production guns. Only the legendary Invincible grade, of which just three were ever made, ranked higher, making a genuine A-1 Special one of the ultimate prizes for American double-gun collectors.
