Overview
The Pedersoli An IX de Gendarmerie is a modern Italian-made reproduction of the compact French Model An IX gendarmerie pistol of the Napoleonic era. Built by Davide Pedersoli & Co., it is a single-shot 15.2 mm (.60 caliber) muzzle-loading flintlock with a 125 mm smoothbore barrel, a walnut half-stock, and polished brass furniture. Shorter and lighter than the cavalry An IX pistol, it reproduces the sidearm issued to French gendarmes and infantry officers, and is produced today for black-powder re-enactment and historical target shooting.

Background
The little An IX gendarmerie pistol was made in pairs at the Imperial Manufacture of Maubeuge and issued to gendarmes and officers rather than line troops; its short barrel and light weight made it a personal-defense holster arm for men who policed the roads and rear areas of Napoleon's empire.
