Overview

The Pedersoli Missouri River Hawken is a modern percussion muzzleloading rifle produced by Davide Pedersoli in Italy as a faithful reproduction of the classic American plains rifle of the fur-trapping era. It features a 30-inch browned octagonal barrel with six-groove rifling and a fast 1:24 twist optimized for the .50 caliber patched round ball, a color case-hardened percussion lock, adjustable double-set triggers, blade front and adjustable rear sights, and a half-stock of maple (walnut on the alternate model) with iron furniture. Loaded from the muzzle with black powder and a patched ball, it is popular with traditional muzzleloader hunters and living-history shooters. A .45 caliber version with a slower 1:47 twist is also offered.

Background

The Hawken rifle was the archetypal 'plains rifle' carried by American mountain men, fur trappers, and frontiersmen of the early 19th century. Pedersoli's Missouri River Hawken recreates that iconic pattern for modern black-powder shooters and hunters.
